What is a TXT record?

A TXT record is a type of Domain Name System (DNS) record that is used to provide the ability to associate arbitrary non-formatted text string with a host or other name, such as human readable information about a server, network, data center, and other information. It can be used for a variety of purposes and a domain can have multiple TXT records.

Why do I need to add a TXT record for Cloudbric?

Cloudbric uses TXT records to verify domain ownership for issuing SSL

Cloudbric asks you to insert TXT records at your current domain hosting provider to verify domain ownership. You must add the TXT record shown during the registration to your DNS records that starts with “_acme-challenge” at your current domain hosting provider to issue an SSL.

Why does the record start with _acme-challenge.? What is it?

Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) is a protocol for automating the management of domain-validation certificates.

The objective of Let’s Encrypt and the ACME protocol is to make it possible to set up an HTTPS server and have it automatically obtain a browser-trusted certificate, without any human intervention such as verifying email. This is accomplished by running a certificate management agent on Cloudbric server.

The Let’s Encrypt CA will look at the domain name being requested and issue one or more sets of challenges. These are different ways that the agent can prove control of the domain.
